SEXUAL ORIENTATION

“Why would you want to be gay” “I can’t be friends with him, he might be attracted to me”. “Fag”. These are words that plague an homosexual teenager. Can you imagine hearing a constant barrage of insults being thrown at you on a daily insults. Imagine a world where being picked on is the daily norm, and where you can’t be yourself, and stand up for yourself and your sexual orientation. To do so, is to hang yourself socially, and alienate yourself, this is the life of a homosexual teenager. We all think that being a teenager is difficult, try being a homosexual one.

Your youth is when your are to discover yourself and start question your self about who you want to be and where you want to go in life, for most teens, they have already accepted that they are heterosexual and don’t even question their sexuality, but for a homosexual teenager, that time period is a difficult one. it’s a time of secrecy and fear. Fear of being discovered and fear of being ostracized, buy loved ones and friends, deep bone crushing, suicidal fear.

Take a look at the questions below and try to answer them as truthfully as you can:

1)How did you know that you were straight?
2)Did you tell your parents you were straight?
3)Do you flaunt your sexuality by kissing your different sex partner in public? if so why?
4)What did you do when you found out you were straight?
5)Do you think that all a straight person needs is a good gay lover?
6)Where you born straight or did you decide to be straight?

Yes I know, you think these questions are ridiculous. How can I ask you such questions. I am guessing that most of you are laughing at these questions, and wonder why anyone can ask you such things. If you are laughing at these questions and have not got, the reason behind them then I am guessing you are straight. Think back to those questions, didn’t if feel insulting and invasive? Wasn’t it weird having to question yourself and your sexuality?. Now take one more look at the questions and replace every part of it that says straight with the word gay and the word gay with straight. Those questions and more are what homosexuals teens constantly hear. They are forced to constantly re-evaluate themselves and have to think about who they are, just to satisfy the culture that judges them too harshly.

Its time to take another look at our culture and think about why we are so against homosexuals. Why we let a teenager sit and listen to insults about themselves, and why we let them live in fear. What is so wrong with the idea of homosexuality. I thought Americans prided themselves on their constitutional rights, and their privacy rights, why do we forego those rights when it comes to homosexuality. What teen would want to grow up in a world where they can’t be themselves, why not just be someone else. Make life a little less complicated with their sexuality.

“God says that homosexuality is wrong”. That’s the general answer I get from most people when I ask them why they are so against homosexuality. I am not shocked by this response because after-all we pride our selves on our Judeo-Christian ideas. We have God on everything, from our money to the recitation of the pledge. I find this response laughable and ridiculous considering the depravity of the world that we live in. Sex is blatantly everywhere. Didn’t God also say that sex should be only with your partner. I guess most people forgot that part.

I find it funny that people always use God as the answer and use this being to justify their biased belief. Am I wrong but isn’t a man and a woman supposed to have sex so as to produce a child?. I guess most people didn’t catch that memo, because I know millions of people whose last thought is to produce a kid in their sexual acts. Isn’t the world supposed to be created in order for us to live successful and happy lives, and to give our kids something to look forward to in the future. What can a child look forward to but a world full of hate and condemnation.

A gay teen is 6 times more likely to commit suicide than a straight teen. This is a shocking statistic, which no one seems to want to address. The suicidal thoughts come from, lack of information, and again that deep bone crushing fear of being found out. Studies conducted by universities and health agencies show that homosexual teens are two to four times more likely to drop out of school, abuse drugs and alcohol and commit suicide, according to the National Mental Health Association. This is what our hateful world Is leading to. A world where a child can’t openly be themselves, for fear of the consequences. I thought tolerance was what this country was found on, and also the separation of church and state, I guess we forgot the values we based this country on.
