Puberty
Ladies first. Puberty is the time of your life when your body becomes physically ready to have a child. Breast growth is the first stage. You may notice small, tender lumps under your nipples that will grow over the next few years. As they grow bigger you may feel it is necessary to wear a bra. Soft hair will start to grow in the pubic area. This hair will eventually become thick and very curly. You may notice hair under your arms and on your legs. This is where your personal hygiene comes in to play. Most women in the United States shave their underarms and legs. Are you in a rush to grow into the curvy shape of a woman? Well it will soon happen because during puberty your hips get wider while the waist gets smaller. Since your glands grow while you grow, sweat and oil occur more often. You may not have used deodorant as a kid but as you get older, antiperspirant is a part of everyday. We all say that acne is caused by what we eat, well guess what, it's not! Regardless of your efforts to maintain a clean face, pimples will arrive uncontrollably. To try to keep it under control, contact your dermatologists. Last but not least, there is the period. Not the one after a sentence but the uninvited guest that visits every month. Most girls begin their menstrual cycle between the ages of nine and sixteen. Your period is when your ovaries release eggs. Tissue layers and blood cells build up in preparation for sperm to fertilize the egg. If the egg isn't fertilized the tissue and blood cells transform into a blood like fluid and exit through the vagina. When a female begins her menstrual cycle she is able to have a child. During your cycle, you will need some type of protection so fluid will not mess up your clothes. There are many options of protections such as sanitary napkins, tampons, menstrual cup, and glad rags. It is your choice to. Click to find out more about pads, tampons, menstrual cup, and glad rags. Also during your cycle you may feel different emotionally, mentally, and physically. This is called pms. Now it's the guys turn. You guys start puberty around the age of nine or ten. It begins when you start to grow out of you clothes and shoes. First stages will change the size and shape of your body. Your arms, legs, hands and feet will grow faster than the rest of your body. As you grow taller your shoulders will broaden. You will also develop muscles but don't rush your muscular growth by lifting weights. Other stages include a change in your voice which will eventually get deeper. Well at least after all the embarrassing squeaking and cracking. Testosterone causes your voice to get lower and deeper as your voice box grows and vocal chords get thicker. This usually happens around the age of fourteen. Similar to all the other transformations throughout puberty, this is normal too. Wet dreams are another period throughout puberty. This is when a young male ejaculates during sleeping. Don't mistake this for wetting the bed because the liquid that exits your penis will be white and thicker than urine. Usually a wet dream is the first time a male will ejaculate. For males and females, going through these times can be uneasy while being embarrassing. In addition to changes in your body, you will also have to go through emotional changes. This is the point in your life when you look for the person you really are and not the person others want you to be. If you are having trouble coping with puberty it is very important that you talk to your parents or a doctor. You can also talk to your friends about your problems because they are probably going through the same things. Good Luck!
